Ingredients

  • 1 cup of high-quality creamy mayonnaise.
  • 2 tablespoons of sweet pickle relish drained.
  • 1 tablespoon of finely minced white onion.
  • 1 tablespoon of prepared yellow mustard.
  • 1 teaspoon of granulated white sugar.
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dried parsley flakes.
  • 1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt.

Instructions

Prep the Onion

  • Mince the white onion into very tiny, fine pieces. This helps the flavor spread evenly in the sauce.

Drain the Relish

  • Put the sweet relish in a small mesh strainer. Press out the extra juice so the sauce stays thick.

Combine the Base

  • Put the mayonnaise into a medium glass mixing bowl. Add the drained relish and the minced white onion.

Add the Seasonings

  • Stir in the yellow mustard, sugar, and dried parsley. These items give the sauce its classic yellow tint.

Whisk the Mixture

  • Use a wire whisk to blend everything very well. Make sure the sugar is fully dissolved in the mayo.

Season with Salt

  • Add a pinch of salt and taste the sauce. You can add a little more if you like.

Chill to Set

  • Transfer the sauce into a clean airtight glass jar. Put it in the fridge for at least one hour.

Notes

  • Always use a full-fat mayonnaise for the best texture.
  • Let the sauce chill so the flavors can blend.
  • Mince the onion very small so it is smooth.
  • Use sweet relish, not dill relish, for this recipe.
  • Add a tiny drop of lemon juice for brightness.
  • Drain the relish well so the sauce is thick.
  • Store it in the back of the fridge today.
