Equipment

  • Large skillet.
  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking Dish
  • Chef’s Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring cups
  • Wooden spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 lb SPINACH
  • 4 tbsp BUTTER
  • 1/2 cup ONION
  • 3 cloves GARLIC
  • 8 oz CREAM CHEESE
  • 1/2 cup HEAVY CREAM
  • 1/2 cup PARMESAN CHEESE
  • 1/4 cup BREADCRUMBS
  • 1 tsp SALT
  • 1/2 tsp BLACK PEPPER
  • 1/4 tsp NUTMEG

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Wash your fresh spinach leaves in cold water. Pat them dry with a clean paper towel. This prevents the dish from becoming too watery later.

Step 2:

  • Place the large skillet over medium heat. Add two tablespoons of butter to the hot pan. Let the butter melt until it starts to bubble.

Step 3:

  • Add the chopped onions to the melted butter. Sauté them until they are soft and clear. This should take about five minutes of cooking.

Step 4:

  • Stir in the minced garlic with the onions. Cook it for only one minute to avoid burning. You will smell the amazing aroma right away.

Step 5:

  • Add the spinach to the skillet in batches. Let the leaves wilt down before adding more. Stir them gently so they cook very evenly.

Step 6:

  • Turn the heat to low in the skillet. Add the cream cheese and heavy cream now. Stir constantly until the cheese is completely melted.

Step 7:

  • Sprinkle in the Parmesan cheese and the spices. Add the salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg. Mix everything until the sauce is very thick.

Step 8:

  • Pour the spinach mixture into your baking dish. Spread it out so the top is flat. Use a spoon to smooth the creamy surface.

Step 9:

  • Melt the remaining butter in a small bowl. Mix it with the breadcrumbs until they are moist. Sprinkle this over the top of the spinach.

Step 10:

  • Place the dish in a preheated oven. Bake at 375 degrees for fifteen minutes. The top should be golden brown and very bubbly.

Notes

Use fresh spinach for a bright and green color.
Do not overcook the garlic or it will taste bitter.
Squeeze the spinach well if you use the frozen kind.
Add extra Parmesan for a much cheesier top crust.
Use full-fat cream cheese for the best creamy results.
Let the dish rest for five minutes before serving it.
Keep the heat low when adding the heavy cream.
