Equipment

  • Large skillet.
  • Small mixing bowl.
  • Whisk
  • Chef’s Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring spoons
  • Small Tongs

Ingredients

  • 1 lb GROUND BEEF
  • 1/4 cup SOY SAUCE
  • 1/4 cup BROWN SUGAR
  • 1 tbsp SESAME OIL
  • 1 tbsp FRESH GINGER
  • 3 cloves GARLIC
  • 1/2 tsp RED PEPPER FLAKES
  • 12 small TORTILLAS
  • 2 cups COLESLAW MIX
  • 1/4 cup GREEN ONIONS
  • 1 tsp SESAME SEEDS

Instructions

  • Place the large skillet on the stove. Turn the heat to medium-high. Add the ground beef to the hot pan.
  • Cook the beef until it is brown. Break it into small pieces with a spoon. Drain the excess fat from the skillet carefully.
  • Add the garlic and ginger to the beef. Stir them for about one minute. You will smell the amazing aroma quickly.
  • Whisk the soy sauce and brown sugar together. Add the sesame oil and red pepper flakes. Pour this sauce over the cooked beef.
  • Let the beef simmer in the sauce. Do this for two or three minutes. The sauce will become thick and shiny.
  • Warm your tortillas in a separate pan. This makes them soft and very easy to fold. Do not let them get too crispy.
  • Scoop the beef into the warm tortillas. Top them with fresh coleslaw and green onions. Sprinkle some sesame seeds on top now.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to avoid too much grease.
  • Grate fresh ginger for the very best flavor results.
  • Do not overcook the garlic or it turns bitter.
  • Warm the tortillas right before you serve the meal.
  • Add a squeeze of lime for extra bright acid.
  • Double the sauce if you like extra juicy tacos.
  • Use a cast iron skillet for better meat browning.
  • Top with spicy mayo for a creamy flavor kick.
