Fill your large pot with cool water. Add a pinch of salt to the water. This adds flavor to the noodles. Bring the water to a big boil. Put the Skinners noodles into the pot. Cook them for about ten minutes. They should be soft but slightly firm. Do not cook them too long. They will cook more in the oven. Drain the water in the sink. Lay the noodles flat on some wax paper. This keeps them from sticking together.
Cook the Meat Sauce
Put your skillet on the stove top. Turn the heat to medium high. Add the ground beef to the pan. Break the meat into small pieces. Cook the meat until it is brown. Drain the extra fat from the pan. This keeps the dish from being greasy. Add the chopped onion and garlic now. Stir them until they are very soft. Pour the red pasta sauce over the meat. Let it simmer for ten minutes. This makes the sauce very thick and warm.
Mix the Cheese Filling
Take your large white mixing bowl. Put the ricotta cheese inside it. Crack one egg into the bowl. Add the Italian herbs and parmesan cheese. Mix everything with a large wooden spoon. The mix should look very smooth. Add a little bit of black pepper. This is the heart of the lasagna. It will taste very rich and creamy. The egg will hold it all together. Set the bowl aside for a moment.
Layer the Lasagna Dish
Take your clean glass baking dish. Spread some meat sauce on the bottom. This prevents the noodles from sticking. Place three noodles on the red sauce. They should fit perfectly in the dish. Spread the ricotta mix over the noodles. Use a spoon to make it flat. Add more meat sauce on top. Sprinkle some white mozzarella cheese over that. This is the first complete layer.
Repeat the Layers
Repeat these steps three more times. Add noodles and then the cheese mix. Add more sauce and then more mozzarella. The layers look very beautiful from the side. Make sure to use all the ingredients. Save some mozzarella for the very top. Press down lightly on the layers. This removes any large air bubbles. Your dish is almost ready to bake.
Add the Final Topping
Place the last three noodles on top. Pour the rest of the sauce over them. Cover the sauce with extra mozzarella cheese. Add a little more parmesan cheese too. This makes a very golden crust. You can add a little parsley too. It makes the dish look very fresh. Your dish is now ready for the heat.
Bake and Rest
Heat your oven to three hundred seventy-five degrees. Cover the dish with aluminum foil. Put the dish in the oven. Bake it for twenty-five minutes. Remove the foil for the last bit. Bake for fifteen more minutes now. The cheese will bubble and turn brown. This step makes the top very crispy. Let it cool for ten minutes. This makes it easier to cut.
