Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Ground beef lean is best.
  • 1 large Onion finely chopped.
  • 3 cloves Garlic minced.
  • 2 cans Tomato sauce 15 oz each.
  • 2 cans Kidney beans 15 oz each.
  • 3 tbsp Chili powder.
  • 1 tsp Ground cumin.
  • 1 tsp Salt.
  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper.
  • 1 cup Beef broth.
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable oil.

Instructions

Brown the Meat

  • Heat oil in your large pot over medium heat. Add the ground beef to the hot pot. Cook until the meat is no longer pink. Drain the excess fat from the pot carefully.

Sauté the Vegetables

  • Add the chopped onions to the beef. Stir in the minced garlic as well. Cook until the onions are soft and clear. This takes about five minutes of stirring.

Add the Spices

  • Sprinkle the chili powder over the meat mixture. Add the cumin, salt, and black pepper too. Stir well to coat everything in spices. The kitchen will start to smell wonderful now.

Pour the Liquids

  • Pour in the tomato sauce and beef broth. Stir the pot to combine all the flavors. Make sure to scrape the bottom of the pot. This adds extra flavor to your delicious chili.

Add the Beans

  • Open the cans of kidney beans and drain them. Add the beans to the chili pot. Stir gently so you do not mash them. This adds great texture to the final dish.

Simmer the Chili

  • Turn the heat down to low. Cover the pot with a tight lid. Let it simmer for thirty minutes. This allows the flavors to blend together perfectly.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Taste the chili and add salt if needed. Ladle the hot chili into large bowls. Serve it with your favorite toppings immediately. It is now ready for your hungry family.

Notes

  • Use high-quality beef for the best flavor results.
  • Do not rush the simmering process at all.
  • Slow cooking makes the spices taste much better.
  • You can add a pinch of sugar too.
  • This helps balance the acidity of the tomatoes.
  • Let the chili sit for ten minutes before serving.
  • It thickens up nicely as it cools down.
  • Add fresh jalapeños if you like extra heat.
  • Always taste your food as you go along.
  • This ensures the seasoning is just right for you.
